Workshop to form hypotheses and develop protocols for examining probable causes of population declines in shorebirds

by Jennie Duberstein / Tuesday, 19 June 2012 / Published in Awards Program

Project Description

We propose to conduct a workshop to establish a methodological framework for testing hypotheses that could explain the decrease in population size of shorebirds in the Western Hemisphere. The shorebird monitoring program in the Northwestern Mexico is coordinated by Terra Peninsular and supported by CRIMBI (USFS) began in 2011 and will continue through 2020. To be able to test hypotheses in different sites in a coordinated manner is a unique opportunity to critically evaluate the factors and mechanisms that are regulating the populations of shorebirds. The protocols developed in the workshop will be implemented by individuals and institutions participating in the Grupo de Aves del Noroeste (GANO) and will use the project CRIMBI for fieldwork and analysis of information required to validate the assumptions.
