Arvind Panjabi

Arvind Panjabi is the International Director at Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, where he has worked since 2000. Arvind has developed and currently oversees Bird Conservancy’s science, stewardship and education programs in northern Mexico, which focus primarily on grassland birds and other wildlife, including resident and migratory species. Arvind also oversees the Partners in Flight Avian Conservation Assessment Database, a tool for conservation planners that covers 10 countries from Panama to Canada and 1600 bird species.

Arvind joined the SJV Management Board in 2012 and is currently the U.S. vice co-chair. As one of the few members of the SJV Management Board that is based in the U.S. but working primarily in Mexico, Arvind brings a binational perspective to the SJV, as well as on-the-ground experience in grassland systems and with private landowners and diverse partners in both countries. His favorite bird in the SJV region is the “Baird’s Sparrow – poorly known, rarely seen, highly threatened, and stunningly beautiful. When it occurs in the SJV region in the winter, its freshly molted plumage shows off its bright ochre tones, blending in perfectly with the yellowing grass.”
