Project Description
The California Important Bird Area (IBA) program provides an important framework for conservation efforts statewide. Because the IBAs guide focused regional conservation action by both Audubon California and the Sonoran Joint Venture, it is vital that they accurately represent those regions most important to sensitive (Threatened, Endangered, or Special Concern) species and/or exceptionally large congregations of species. Audubon California was awarded $14,916 to update the 21 IBAs in the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. They will conduct a comprehensive review and refinement of existing IBA boundaries in the desert regions; designate one or more new IBAs based on the best available data and research; and produce and disseminate an accessible, informative, and user-friendly spatial dataset that all partners across the region may use to visualize, understand, and analyze IBAs.
