Pronatura ha realizado estudios en el \u00e1rea sobre el \u00e9xito reproductivo de dos colonias de especies en peligro de extinci\u00f3n: el chorlito nevado (<em>Charadrius alexandrinus<\/em>) y el charr\u00e1n m\u00ednimo (<em>Sterna antillarum<\/em>). El \u00e9xito reproductivo en el \u00e1rea es de casi 30% para cada especie, con 30 nidos de chorlito y 150 de charr\u00e1n. Las causas en el fracaso de los nidos incluyen inundaci\u00f3n, depredaci\u00f3n por coyotes, linces y halc\u00f3n peregrino, traspaso de ganado y caballos, y alteraciones humanas. Este proyecto intenta aumentar el \u00e9xito reproductivo, principalmente a trav\u00e9s de la construcci\u00f3n de mecanismos para controlar el agua a fin de controlar las inundaciones en las \u00e1reas de anidaci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n, se construir\u00e1 una cerca para controlar el acceso de los grandes mam\u00edferos y seres humanos al \u00e1rea.
